Revamping the Elementary Library Space to Support Student Success

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Walking into an elementary library that has stuffed shelves of spine out books in alpha order by author is just not the most inviting environment for our youngest students. So how do we start making the shifts that will support students for successful discoverability for little (and bigger) hands? By considering how we display, shelve, label, sign, and organize individual books and sections in our libraries. The presenter will share her story of evolving three different elementary libraries and the lessons learned in revamping the spaces - including the differences and so many similarities - with weeding, organization, usage, and collection development. Join a discussion about ways we can support students (and staff) in finding what they want & need without relying on library staff assistance to make our elementary libraries more kid-friendly and usable for our schools.
