YouTube and Your Readers: Sparking Reading Engagement in Your Students

Sign up or log in to save this to your schedule, view media, leave feedback and see who's attending!

Rather than take the time to find and use current, relevant, and exciting new titles in the kidlit world, many teachers (the new, tired and burnt-out) are reading the same old novels they were taught. In this session I will share how the strategy of First Chapter Friday and the power of YouTube can introduce students to high quality literature AND increase their enthusiasm toward reading … all for FREE. As a former middle school reading and English teacher and the author of twelve books, I combine my love of words with my knowledge of Middle Grade and Young Adult books to share high quality, award winning, teachable books. In this session I will outline the benefits of using video in your classroom (even though we really wish our students would spend less time on YouTube!) and how to effectively create, structure and implement video use and First Chapter Friday in your classroom. Time will be given for Q&A and also for attendees to browse materials and make implementation plans.
