During a time when book choices are being questioned and challenged, it’s more important than ever to ensure that our collections are authentic, accurate, current, and inclusive. And that you can defend why it needs to be so and the book choices you make. Children deserve to be seen, recognized, and loved for their full humanity, and kids and families of all identities deserve to have their lived experiences affirmed on the pages of the books that we purchase, recommend, add to curriculum, and read aloud. This is the beauty and honor, and obligation, of the work that we do with young people as we support them in developing into empathetic members of a global society. It's not an easy time to be a librarian, but it is a crucially important one.
